What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small piece of information that is passed from a website to your computer and your computer stores that information.  This information can be retrieved by the same web site.  They are commonly used for websites that provide your personalised information, or on sites that want to track your 'path' through their site.  Cookies are not executable code and cannot contain a computer virus.
